Our first regional newsletter – China 🌱

各位Vegan Leader,

IN ENGLISH 👇

Dear Vegan Leader,

Welcome to the first edition of the regional newsletter for Vegan Leaders in Corporate Management (VLCM) across China.

My name is Fátima, I’m based in Macau and I'm the engagement manager for the region.

I work professionally in translation and interpretation, and my passion lies in advocating for animals and fostering better communication between humans and non-human beings. I’ve been vegan for six years, and this journey has deeply shaped my personal and professional choices.

In the early years, I participated in company dinners and social events, where colleagues kindly ensured there were vegan options for me. However, I later realized that by attending, I was indirectly contributing to the cost of animal-based products. This insight led me to make the decision to step away from these gatherings altogether.

So why does this story matter to you?
Well, it seems like vegans share similar struggles and challenges while working in a non-vegan environment. This was the reason for the formation of VLCM’s LinkedIn Group back in 2014.  We are pleased to share that this group now includes over 60 members in Hong Kong, Macau mainland China and Taiwan!

🌱 Why this newsletter?

Moving forward, you’ll receive this quarterly update directly in your inbox. We've crafted it aiming to inform, inspire, engage, and share valuable resources within our community of vegan corporate professionals. Above all, our goal is to help us inspire change locally, to strengthen our network and deepen our connections across borders. Would you like to know if we have other members in you region? Fill out the form on this page and we’ll provide you results from our database

🌱 Want to inspire a positive change in your workplace?

Consider presenting the idea of your workplace adopting the model Greener By Default, in which plant-based meals become the default with meat and dairy available on request. Many companies are eager to implement sustainable policies and this program is an effective way to do just that. Companies like LinkedIn have successfully implemented this model (see video), cutting meat intake by half through the program.

You could also consider proposing the idea to other sustainably-minded employees and sign the email from all of you to show broader support for the initiative.

Please feel free to copy and paste this template to your manager to advocate for Greener by Default in your workplace.
