Fifth International Green Zero‑Carbon Festival

Over 300 sustainability brands will come together to showcase their latest products, alongside 150 speakers sharing insights on climate action, green innovation, and low‑carbon development. The festival brings together business, policy, and technology voices shaping China’s sustainability transition.
Shanghai · 26–28 August 2026
Held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, this year’s theme is “Vegetarian New Food, Vegetarian New Life.” While not exclusively vegan, the expo features a strong presence of plant‑based foods, alternative protein technologies, and sustainable lifestyle products, making it a key discovery space for future‑food innovation in China.
Hong Kong · 7–11 September 2026
A city‑wide sustainability programme featuring forums, exhibitions, and networking events. HK Green Week includes a dedicated sustainability finance hub, enabling ESG professionals, innovators, and policymakers to exchange ideas and best practice across climate, food systems, and green finance.
China Xiamen International Vegetarian Food & Organic Products Fair (CXIVFF)
Xiamen · 15–19 October 2026
One of Mainland China’s longest‑running vegetarian trade fairs, CXIVFF will host over 500 exhibitors and attract more than 100,000 visitors. The event focuses on vegetarian food, organic products, sustainable nutrition, and healthy lifestyles, alongside conferences exploring green food innovation and industry collaboration.

China convenes Global Forum on Cultivated Meat 2026
In April 2026, Nanjing Agricultural University and Joes Future Food hosted the Global Forum on Cultivated Meat, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers. Discussions focused on safety assessment, standard‑setting, and scaling pathways, signalling China’s growing intent to shape global cultivated‑meat governance.
ProVeg China partners with Jiangnan University to launch NeoProtein Innovation Centr
In April 2026, ProVeg China signed an MoU with Jiangnan University, ranked No.1 globally for Food Science, to establish a NeoProtein Centre of Excellence. The partnership will focus on next‑generation proteins, industry‑academia collaboration, and accelerating commercialisation of plant‑based, fermented, and cultivated protein solutions.
China strengthens its position as a global alternative‑protein innovation hub
Multiple analyses published in 2026 highlight China’s rapid progress across plant‑based, fermentation‑derived, and cultivated proteins. Supported by national food‑security goals and biomanufacturing policy signals, the country is increasingly drawing comparisons with its earlier scale‑up in solar energy and EVs.
New report: China could become a net exporter of alternative proteins by 2040
A 2026 report by Systemiq and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation suggests China is at “Year 0” of a food‑system transformation. Strategic investment in biomanufacturing and alternative proteins could reduce soy imports by 25% by 2030 and position China as a major exporter of alternative protein products within two decades.
