The Power of Subtle Influence

This session from Vegan Leaders takes a refreshing turn away from big campaigns or public activism. Instead, our team guides us into the quieter, slower, and often more effective world of subtle influence, especially in professional environments where being openly vegan can feel like a scarlet letter.

The heart of the session centers on the experience of navigating a conventional workplace while living a plant-based lifestyle. The discussion highlights how, in environments where the culture may not naturally align with plant-based values, it's still possible to have an impact.

Our member, Paula, explains how she made herself “discoverable” as someone living a plant-based lifestyle. Presenting ourselves as a modal, rather than a messenger, can be an incredibly effective way to plant seeds within our coworkers. Everyday choices like the food we bring, the clothes we wear, or how we talk about our free time can quietly invite interest over time. These low-key signals often spark conversations, sometimes weeks or even years later, as colleagues begin to reflect, ask questions, or explore the topic on their own terms.

If you’ve ever felt like “influence” wasn’t your strength, watch this video till the end for the live audience interaction where participants are invited to reflect on their own experiences and share stories and raise real-life questions about staying motivated, navigating remote work, and handling the feeling of being the only one.
